Mo6-L2b: What are Ceramics and Plastics?
Let’s Begin Types of Ceramics
Unglazed Earthenware is hard, strong and porous
(has pores or holes). It is made by heating clay and
Ceramics is good for making plant pots to allow air and water
to pass through.
Ceramics are usually made from clay material
which tends to be hard, corrosion-resistant and
brittle.
Ceramics are generally made by taking mixtures
of clay, earthen elements, powders, and water and
shaping them into desired forms.
Stoneware is strong, hard, waterproof, and high
melting point. It is made for cups, bowls, dishes, and
pots for microwave and oven. Can withstand high
temperatures.
There are different types of ceramics with different
physical properties.
Typically, ceramics are hard, strong, non-ductile,
non-malleable, good insulators of heat and electricity,
and have high melting points.
Ceramics are also opaque so they do not allow light to
pass through.
Bricks and Tiles are strong, hard, rigid, waterproof,
and opaque. They do not burn easily and are good
insulators. Used for buildings, roofs, and bathrooms
or kitchens. Can withstand weather.
