Mo6-L2a: What is Glass and Its Uses?

Types of Glass Borosilicate glass is hard, chemical resistant, and
                                                                  has a high melting point.
Optical Glass is transparent and can bend light.
It can be molded into different shapes so is used to
It is used to make lenses for cameras, glasses, and make lab equipment such as flasks, beakers, and
               microscopes. test tubes.

Optical Fibers are thin and flexible, and can bend
               light.

They are used for cables to carry communication
signals by bending the light, allowing it to travel
               along the cable.
Glass wool is flexible and has low density.

It is good to use as a thermal insulator so it is used
in refrigerators, ovens, walls, and ceilings to prevent

Architectural glass is strong, hard, and waterproof.
It can be transparent or translucent. Key Concept
What is Glass and Its Uses?
It is used in construction for the windows and doors
as well as external walls of office buildings. It allows Compare and contrast architectural glass and
natural light into the building and those inside to borosilicate glass.
